Update 5/14/08 - It's done. The wireless remote receiver for the Nakamichi 730 is done. Last week I bought a 730 Receiver for testing and last night I build up the first unit and tested it. It works. This unit does all the same functions as the original RM-730 (which is near impossible to find). So basically just 9 function, FM Presets A, B, C, D, Volume + & -, FM Tune + & - and Power. Check out my 730 Wireless Remote Receiver here.
I recently bought a Nakamichi Receiver 2 and am currently working on an adapter that will translate Nakamichi System Remote commands from the Receiver1/2/3, RE-1/2/3/10, AV-7/8/10, CA-1, IA-1z and several other newer receivers and the CD Player 1/2 Sync. Rec output into remote commands for the Classic Nakamichi tape decks (580, 580M, 581, 581Z, 582, 582Z, 680, 680ZX, 681ZX, 682ZX, 700ZXE, 700ZXL, 1000ZXL, BX-300, CR-2, CR-3, CR-4, CR-5, Dragon, LX-3, LX-5, MR-1, RX-303, RX-505, ZX-5, ZX-7 and ZX-9). Nakamichi has a box that does exactly this, called the RC-4, but, it is not available anymore.
Update 4/14/08 - Aiwa AD-F990 (and other compatible units) remote receiver is now a working PC Board. I bought a copy of the service manual and found that it's not that different from a Nak, but, you can't just use one of my Nak remotes. I have a bunch of boards built up but, none in cases with cables yet. Contact me if you want one of these.
Update 9/5/08 - My System Remote IR Receiver PC boards are being fabed. This board incorporates many changes and updates from my prototype. This remote receiver will allow you to remote control Nakamichi tape decks with System remote jacks on the back without the need of a Nak Receiver like the Receiver1/2/3 series. More information here.
Update 11/21/07 - Revox B77 Mk I & II and PR-99 Mk I Wireless IR remote receiver. Check out www.revoxremotes.com for more info.
Update 8/1/07 - I have finished writing and testing code for decoding the serial bit stream for Nak System remote. I will now start writing the code required to translate this code into signals compatible with the classic Nak tape decks. Basically duplicating the Nakamichi RC-4 remote signal converter which is no longer available.
Update 4/29/07 - I received chips from Ireland for building a remote transmitter compatible with Nakamichi's original RM-580 receiver. This is for people who may have an original RM-580, but, are missing the remote transmitter. 8/1/07 - I think I found a set of nice big buttons to use in my remote control.
Future projects - Contact me to get on the list to be notified when it's available. The more people get on the list the faster I will get it going.
NEW 9/5/08 Newer McIntosh receivers and preamps have a "Data Port" output on the back which is similar to Nakamichi's System Remote. This data port is used to control other devices via the receiver/preamp remote. Currently it only works with McIntosh data port enabled equipment or other brands of equipment that are IR capable with the McIntosh RCT-1 translator. I'm looking into building a McIntosh Data Port to Nakamichi adapter. This would allow the McIntosh remote to control you Nakamichi tape deck (8-pin DIN versions first and maybe system remote decks later)
Nakamichi RM-580T - I'm trying to remake the transmitter for the genuine Nakamichi RM-580. Why, because I have one that needs the transmitter and universal remotes don't work.
Nakamichi 480 series Tape Deck Remote Receiver
Teac Z-5000/6000/7000 Remote Receiver
Revox B215 Remote Receiver (I'm looking for a service manual for this deck, in particular the schematic of the remote connector)
